Ina Bierstedt (GER)
5. 8. 2024 – 5. 9. 2024
Ina Bierstedt is a Berlin-based artist. As a painter, she teaches Fine Arts at University of the Arts in Berlin and at Kunsthochschule Kassel in Germany. Together with Bettina Carl and Alena Meier, she founded the Capri Project Space in 2001. To this day, she runs together with Bettina Carl the ongoing international Capri projects.
Ina Bierstedt's paintings are formed by layers and based on contents of memory. The artist uses research materials like texts, letters and photographs as well as textile. Her own biography, her childhood and youth in the former GDR, often forms an initial point. However, Bierstedt has long since broadened her gaze to historical contexts that lie far in the past. Her work is both research-based and associative. The multi-layered transfer processes between text, image and colour, between past and present, are the essential moments of her work.
Ina Bierstedt studied fine art in Katharina Sieverding's class at Berlin University of the Arts. She has exhibited in German and international institutions and galleries, including the Museum Essl Vienna (2005), the Museum de Paviljoens in Almere (2005), the Brno House of Arts (2015), the Brandenburg State Museum BLmK in Cottbus (solo 2017) and the Kunstverein Lüneburg (solo 2023). Ina Bierstedt's work and the projects she has initiated have been recognised through numerous grants, prizes and public fundings.
