Man Tin Lai: Digital Noosphere: AI, Eastern Wisdom, and the Evolution of Human Knowledge

This lecture examines the intersection of digital humanities, artificial intelligence, and Eastern philosophy through the AI work "Eastern Wisdom Extracting Machine." It explores how AI technologies contribute to the expansion of the noosphere - the sphere of human thought and cognition. By analysing the AI-driven reinterpretation of Shan Shui painting and Feng Shui principles, the lecture investigates the philosophical implications of using machine learning for knowledge magnification and cultural preservation. The discussion encompasses ontological questions raised by merging ancient wisdom with contemporary technology, epistemological shifts brought by AI capabilities, and the considerations in AI-driven cultural heritage transformation. How contemporary technologies reshape our understanding of the noosphere in the digital age, potentially leading to new forms of collective intelligence and cultural synthesis. This lecture aims to initiate thought on technology's role in evolving human knowledge and the future of human-machine collaboration in art and philosophy.

The lecture will be conducted in English.
