Sums & Differences Wins the CAVU 2023 Award in the Category Artistic Contribution of the Year

The Czech Academy of Visual Arts Awards 2023 took place in Prague on 18 November 2024. In the category of Artistic Contribution of the Year, the first prize went to the exhibition project of the House of Arts Brno, Sums & Differences, curated by Jennifer Helia DeFelice, Kristín Scheving and Halldór Runólfsson. Congratulations!

The exhibition, which ran from December 13, 2023 to March 3, 2024, presented the works of Brno-born Woody Vasulka and his wife Steina, pioneers of global video art, and Gary Hill, a representative of the second generation of video artists and a close collaborator of the Vasulka family. The aim of the project was to outline the commonalities of their early explorations and subsequent divergence of artistic practices, their conceptual, performative and contemplative interpretations of the physical and the immaterial. The project was created thanks to the collaboration between the House of Arts, Vašulka Kitchen Brno and the Icelandic LÁ Art Museum.
