Artspace Germany

European integration and the global interlinking of the world bring new challenges in the mediation of national cultures. Visual art clearly demonstrates the effects of cultures becoming close. The “global village” is a reality. In today’s world, the importance of the role of artist as a global player, as a pilgrim among cultures, has grown. In the 1950s many German artists were attracted by art centres such as Paris, and in the 1960s, in turn, by New York, while artists from other countries chose Germany as a place for living and working. Their integration was also manifested through new artistic stimuli, seen today as a natural part of the local art scene. These artists who settled in Germany and have spent there most of their creative lives do not just produce art; they also teach at art academies and have helped turn Germany into an attractive place for young people, from both Germany and abroad. The IFA exhibition shows another view on “Art Space Germany“ It presents it as a diversified space held together by trans-cultural unity. Kunstraum Deutschland is represented at the exhibition by works created in the last thirty years by artists Armando, Candice Breitz, Tony Cragg, Marianne Eigenheer, Ayse Erkmen, Christine Hill, Magdalena Jetelová, Per Kirkeby, Joseph Kosuth, Marie-Jo Lafontaine, Nam June Paika, Giuseppe Spagnulo and Herman de Vries.
