Colours in the films of Jaroslav Kučera

The cinematographer Jaroslav Kučera has been associated with a unique way of using colour in film. Colour toning of the image, working with filters, the choice and reduction of colour scale, and the relation of the surface and lighting defined the specific atmosphere of his films, but also emphasized the narration, the features of characters and settings. The lecture of Jaroslav Brabec, a well-known cinematographer, photographer, Jaroslav Kučera’s collaborator and friend of long-standing, will focus on this aspect of Kučera’s work, taking into account also the nonverbal communication of colour relations.
