Phill Niblock – Still Waiting for Title

The American musician, photographer and film maker Phill Niblock (b. 1933), co-founder and operator of the progressive art scene Experimental Intermedia in New York, is a prominent personality in contemporary intermedial art. Although he became famous as a composer of electronic music, lately he has gained a reputation in the world of art by his visual works – films, photographs and audio-visual installations, a testimonial to which are last year’s retrospective in the Musée pour la photographie n Lausaunne and the planned installation at Tate Modern in London in 2015. The proposal for the exhibition at the House of the Lords of Kunštát and Galerie G99 in Brno is conceived retrospectively and will present all the important forms of Niblock’s visual art – black-and-white photographic portraits and still-lifes from the mid-1960s, pioneering 16 mm short films from the end of the 1960s, slide projections and installations of abstract structures from the 1970s and 1980s as well as the
famous minimalist films from the extensive cycle “The Movements of People Working” from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The exhibition will be made complete with an audio-visual installation created by the artist in situ specially for the space of Galerie G99. Curator: Jozef Cseres.
