Tanja Boukal: Do You Know That We Have Lost?

Videoteaser for exhibition Do You Know That We Have Lost? by Austrian artist Tanja Boukal that will take place at Jaroslav Král Gallery at House of Arts Brno from November 24, 2021 till March 6, 2022.

In her works Tanja Boukal explores themes such as struggle for work and survival or migration and the related social deprivation. The material she works in is threads, or textiles, that she makes using different techniques. The professionally mastered traditional craft of weaving and embroidery is augmented by Boukal’s sharp and empathic interest in human existence, such as when she embroiders photos from news reports on immigrants. The extremely difficult and time-consuming technique that Boukal chooses seems to emphasise the importance of the portrayed and to return a piece of human dignity to them.
