Monogramista T. D
The Migrant

Slovak conceptual artist Monogramist T.D prepared for the Jaroslav Král Gallery an exhibition of his latest works. Its title resonates with a current global issue, yet the artist’s approach does not focus on its political and social level; it is mostly based on his personal experience. By moving to another city of another country, Monogramist T.D finds himself in the position of a foreigner, a migrant, and this situation becomes for him an opportunity to see and live things in a new way, to notice details that normally escape our attention. Ordinary, advertising and kitschy materials filling his letterbox serve as a source from which the artist sensitively picks out fragments of phrases, scraps of the photos of objects from adverts, and transforms them into new meanings and connections. The play with language and images, paradoxes of newly found relations and references to the interwar modernism count among most interesting aspects of the artist’s oeuvre, as does his ability to express general thoughts and ideas with the use of concrete examples. The exhibition will take the form of installation including, along with paintings, art objects, texts and videos from material gathered over time, also the transformation of the layout of the exhibition space.
